Peter Cox's love for his island and its natural inhabitants is clear. During his tours he can discuss the geology and formation of the island which has led to the remarkable diversity you can find in the flora and fauna here.
There are over 210 species of birdlife in Tobago - including hummingbirds, woodpeckers, kingfishers, flycatchers and beeaters; over 120 species of Butterflies including Morpho Peledies or Blue Emperor. Of Snakes, there are 24 species, none being dangerous or poisonous. Bat species number 17 including the Insectivorous, Frugivorous, Nectarivorous and one fish eating bat (Piscivourous).
16 species of lizards such as Ground and Tree Lizards, Geckos, the splendid Iguana Iguana and Golden Tegu. Frogs of 14 species ranging from Tree frogs, True frogs, Toads and Piping frogs; 3 species of Turtles - the Green, the Hawksbill. Also the magnificent though endangered Giant Leatherback.
Peter is a "resident" nature guide who offers informative wildlife lectures at some popular hotels including at the Rex Turtle Beach. He welcomes discussion and queries - and is easily spotted by his trademark - a floppy burgundy West Indies cricket team hat.
If running full time nature tours isn't enough, Peter also is very active in the Nations Schools running conservation classes and lectures as well as Field Trips.
A Review Of Him and His Tours
"Softly spoken and exhibiting a good sense of humour, Peter proved to be an excellent guide and companion. He quickly determined and pitched the tour at exactly the right level for our expertise and interest and seemed to have a good instinct for knowing when we had “had enough” and wished to move on. Without doubt he is a knowledgeable and expert guide in all matters connected with the flora and fauna and wildlife of Tobago. As such, I can thoroughly recommend him to our readers." - Steve Wooler March 2006 (Editor for MyTobago.info)
